The term perimenopause wasn’t around in your mother’s or grandmother’s day. It is a relatively new term the medical community has been using for about 20 years to refer to the time around or before menopause. Not every woman is going to experience symptoms, or the ones that do will not have the same intensity or duration as others. Everyone’s experience is unique and quite individual. Symptoms can range from physical: irregular periods, heavy bleeding, extreme PMS, and migraines to name a few of the most common; to symptoms that manifest in emotional ways such as anxiety, irritability, depression, and wild mood swings. All of this amounts to a heap of stress that women have to deal with on a monthly basis.
