What’s the Link Between Type 2 Diabetes and Low Testosterone?

Testosterone is a highly beneficial hormone that helps improve sexual, mental, and physical wellbeing in both men and women. With age, testosterone levels drop, but when it drops to abnormally low levels, major problems can occur. Although testosterone is a sex hormone, low testosterone can have devastating effects on overall health. Low testosterone can lead to depression, fatigue, and mood swings as well as a loss of muscle tone and problems with libido and sexual function. Men with low testosterone also have more problems with insulin resistance, which is a major factor in type 2 diabetes. This may explain why almost half of all men with type 2 diabetes also have low testosterone. The numbers are even higher in men with obesity. But a new study shows that testosterone therapy may help with both conditions—improving insulin regulation, decreasing inflammation, helping with body composition and sexual function, and having a positive effect on overall health. … Read More
